A Corporate Veteran
Prior to IOResources, Janet was a business professional, spearheading business development initiatives for INSEAD, Oracle, CHEP, SembCorp Logistics and Kuok Oils & Grains in Singapore, China and Southeast Asia. Her first taste of international business arose from her first job as a procurement officer at the Ministry of Defence, Singapore, where she was bestowed with both the honour and the terrifying responsibility of negotiating on behalf of the nation.
Her sector experience includes defence, telecommunication, information technology, consumer goods, construction & engineering, industrial manufacturers, health & beauty, banking & finance, higher education and government. In the process, she has enjoyed innumerable knowledge-gathering conversations with leaders, subject matter experts, employees, consumers and an array of other stakeholders. Janet draws on this wide exposure to anticipate challenges and to source a range of best practices from different industries.
Janet has first hand understanding of what entrepreneurs and startups go through.
Between September 2015 - January 2016, she was an in-house business development consultant to a Shanghai based business simulation startup. As a consulting partner, she was working amongst the members of the startup, contributing in their business design and assessment tool development. As part of the work, she coached final year varsity students in different parts of China.
From mid 2016 to end 2017, Janet was involved in a WorldBank-China government project researching into factors contributing to success and failure of startup ecosystem in China.
Janet first attempted operating a consulting practice in 2005, when she was based in Shanghai. IOResources is her second attempt at the consulting business.
Janet is a futurist and an innovator. In 2016, she created a team of individuals and companies to design, develop and deliver an innovative prototype process for a Singapore SME. The process captures the tacit knowledge of senior employees and converts it to a mobile-enabled apprenticeship learning program that reduces employee-to-market time from more than 12 months to less than six months.
This process won the client a government grant that subsidised the entire project and it was showcased at IN.LAB of Lifelong Learning Institute of Singapore.
Education & Hobbies
Janet has a Master of Science in Industrial-Organisational Psychology from Baruch College, City University of New York and a Bachelor of Business in International Business and Marketing from the University of Tasmania.
She is bilingual in English and Chinese. When she is not working, she loves travelling, hiking, learning about different cultures and practising yoga.
